“God didn’t bring me this far, to only bring me this far.”- Corinne Schnur
Life is a funny thing, one moment you’re on top of the world, the following instant you are at the bottom of the barrel, only to bounce back and be headed up on the next climb. Life throws you those curve balls, and depending on your set of beliefs, those beliefs may guide you with how to tackle given challenges, because as we all know, there is no set handbook for this game of life.
Corinne Schnur, our next Guiding Light Recipient, is meeting each curve ball with grace and a fierce and powerful return. Corinne was diagnosed in April 2023 with stage IV pancreatic cancer with metastatic tumors of her liver. The doctors say terminal, however, with as much as Corinne has left to do, she would prefer to fight and make sure she completes all of the goals she has made.
Corinne is the epitome of and individual that is Loving Life. She enjoys each day. She is caring, helpful and counts her blessings for the gifts she has been granted. Her love of horses began at a young age with her own rotten pony. She continued following her love into 4-H and Pony Club, but that didn’t stop her growth. She stepped into the Quarter Horse world as a young adult and has approached each challenge it presented with great tenacity. There was a lot to learn and much patience that was gained, but eventually, she earned points and was able to win circuit and high point awards in the North West Virginia Quarter Horse Association and Tri-State Quarter Horse Association along with multiple placings at the All American Quarter Horse Congress. While showing at AQHA shows on the weekend, she continued to show her horses in unrated 3-day eventing competitions. Corinne’s “can do” attitude never left any challenge untouched. She was beginning to work on her next feat to conquer- breakaway roping. She had been working hard and with the help of good friends and sheer determination she was getting ready to enter, when she received her dire diagnosis, hitting the pause button on her roping plans.
Not many people can say they have been blessed by their cancer diagnosis. This diagnosis enabled her to become closer to the Lord. She’s been baptized, shared her journey with others and has been lucky enough to do sermons and speaking engagements, helping others. Cancer may not have been the ideal way to bring light to these endeavors, but it is the path that was chosen for her. God has enabled her to gain many friends within the equine community and those individuals have helped her with so much already. They have been a blessing and continue to be a force that keeps her strong through the challenging days. God willing, Corinne will be at some shows this year, doing what she loves more than anything else- cheering her friends on and watching each have their own successes.
